Ye Cable

Two things I bet no one ever thought would be brought together in one piece of fanart: Strongbad from Homestar Runner and Konata from Lucky Star. Well, here it is, and I think for those of you who don't think like I do, I might have to take you through my reasoning on this little joke.

Okay, so this joke comes from two sources. The first is one of the sbemails on the Homestar Runner website. It's the one in which Strongbad explains what he'd be like in various genres of games, one of which being a text-based one. He makes fun of the ambiguity of the games with a sequence involving "ye flask." He types the command "get ye flask," but the game responds "you can't get ye flask!" When asked why the game says "I'm certainly not going to tell thou." The other part of this joke comes from episode 7 of Lucky Star in which Konata complains about not being able to watch more anime because of baseball season or something, and Kagami asks why she can't just get cable, and Konata responds that she wanted to but the cable guy said "I can't get cable." Which, of course, reminded me immediately of the former source. And that, in summary, is why we have Strongbad dressed as a cable guy telling Konata that her request for cable has been denied.

Now, as for the actual drawing, I think Strongbad had to be one of the easiest characters to draw that I've ever seen. Except for his right foot (I said "his" right, not "your" right). I had trouble placing it, and kinda ended up making it look a bit mangled. If any of you are wondering about his name tag, those are supposed to be the kanji for "strong" and "bad" respectively. Konata's face was difficult to draw, though. I changed the expression a good dozen times, and I guess this one was the most satisfying. I dunno, I think I have trouble with the raw cute that is Lucky Star. Hopefully, though, it's as entertaining for others to view as it was for me to make.
